Friday 24th September was National Heritage Day (or National Braai Day, to some)!!
Either way, it was a great excuse to get outdoors, and fortunately we had some GOOD Cape weather to help us along!!
About an hour and a half's drive away from home, we left the city and went through the little holiday villages of Rooiels, Pringle Bay and Betty's Bay, as well as Kleinmond. They really are little "DORPS" with absolutely nothing happening except beautiful scenery and very relaxed individuals - perfect for those holidays where you want to do nothing - just be at the coast.
We visited the 2 main attractions in the area - The Penguin Colony and the Harold Porter Botanical Gardens.
The Penguins were fascinating, and lived on the most harsh-looking rocks.

The Botanical Gardens were amazing, and we found ourselves wishing this was "our garden" - interestingly enough - the memorial to the founder states "the wish of an ardent gardener" - what a beautiful legacy to leave to future generations! I wish I were green-fingered - think I shall add that course to our homeschool curriculum!!

ReplyDeleteMakes me want to pack up here in Joburg and move to the Cape. Homeschooling is such fun when most children are at school and your children can be outside enjoying the day with no over-crowding!
