Lighthouse outing

Today was National Women's Day.... so my wonderful husband spoilt me......
I love exploring our wonderful Cape, so we decided to head out into the blue yonder.....

Such a picturesque view of the lighthouse
from the boardwalk.
Far in the distance, when we look out over the sea, we always see a lighthouse, called "Slangkop".... today we decided to investigate it a bit further..... and were pleasantly surprised that there are still some "unspoilt" areas virtually in our back yard!!
(sorry about the higgledy piggledy photos - I did not have much luck with Blogger tonight... think I have some gremlins in my settings!)

Starting out on the boardwalk!
The view of the lighthouse from the road above.

Tyla took this picture of us... she's not a bad photographer!

The kids and I on the beautiful boardwalk along the coast
Another pose here!!
There was a bit of rock-climbing too!!

The lighthouse up close... unfortunately it was locked
(or maybe, fortunately.... can't imagine having to carry kids
downstairs, once the excitement was over!!)
Typical South African signage - good old pebbles!
One of my favourite flowers, the arum lily, grows in abundance here in the Cape....
wherever you look, in our streams, parks and even here,
next to the sea!!
The image of purity!
Mini-maze at the end of the walk! Cute idea for the kids!
Time out on National Women's Day!! (ha ha... didn't last long!!)
All those little black dots in the sea
are the local surfers (and kelp)
waiting for the next wave!!

Benches for tired little ones
(no, they were'nt really tired yet, we just thought it would make a good photo!!)
Some more rock climbing!

Oh, and did I mention he actually BAKED ME A CAKE...... here's the proof.....
a yummy carrot cake we devoured for tea this morning!!!!
(and this evening, and some for tomorrow morning during our "school break")
The kids enjoyed this bit of role reversal, and their comment on tasting it was.....
Its nice dad, it tastes like one of mom's!!!
(read that any way you want!!)

I am SOOOOO Spoilt by my wonderful husband!!!!

  1. It looks beautiful! Is this like on your backdoor view? It does look a bit cold though. Today is like ice, after having lovely mild sunny days.

  2. Hi Lynn
we look across the Bay to see the lighthouse, but it is about a 30min. drive. It was a bit chilly with a strong sea breeze, but nice and fresh! Hope you guys warm up soon!!

  3. Caroline, what fabulous photos. We were recently at the coast and the sea here is so timid. I long for the rough waves crashing on the rocks and the strong smell of salt - truly beautiful. What a lovely day you had and well as for the cake I am mightily impressed. Well done Andrew!
